Weather and Climate

GEOL 1020

The ‘Weather and Climate’ GS I course will teach students the difference between weather and climate. They will evaluate the effect of weather on the food we eat, where we live, what we wear and the science behind climate change. This course will identify and describe Earth’s physical systems and make connections between them.

At the end of this course students will be able to:
  • Identify and describe Earth’s physical systems and make connections between them
  • Examine the influence humans have on Earth’s physical systems and the influence Earth’s physical systems have on humans
  • Evaluate management decisions about how Earth’s resources should be used
  • Understand global natural Earth systems and human actions

The Global System (GS) I & II science core course sequence is the only science core course offered on Auburn University campus which discusses and argues past, present and future climate change; especially emphasizing on present climate change and how it is affecting land, water and atmosphere, thus supporting science education, creating interest among them to pursue STEM degrees in mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics and geosciences. Both courses will discuss the linkage of local, regional and global weather systems with the terrestrial and hydrological cycles.

The courses do not have to be taken in any specific sequence.
