Registration

Your Academic Profile in the My Academics tab lists your Registration Status each semester.

Your Time Ticket tells you when you get to register. They are displayed in AU Access three weeks prior to registration. Time tickets open on the 1st Monday in November for Spring registration and the 1st Monday in April for Summer/Fall Registration.

All Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will have a registration PIN.  Once you have met your advising requirement for the semester, your pin will be reset to 111111.

If you have a hold, you will not be able to register until it is taken care of. Click View Holds at the bottom of your Academic Profile to see more information about the hold, including who to contact. Your advisor CANNOT remove a hold.

The academic calendar lists important dates including the last day to add a course, the last day to drop with no grade assigned, and the last day to withdraw each semester.

Waitlists typically go away on the first day of classes and any available seats are first come, first served. Check your Detail Schedule in AU Access to see what number you are on the waitlist.

Common Registration Errors

STATUS:  CLOSED SECTION

Closed Section’ means that the class you are trying to sign up for has no more open seats. Use a backup CRN to find a different section of that class. If there are no seats available in any other sections, move to a class on your backup/alternate course list.

STATUS:  PRE-REQUISITE AND TEST SCORE ERROR or CO-REQUISITE ERROR

‘Prerequisite and Test Score Error’ means that there is something required before you can sign up for this class. It’s usually the completion of another course, but could also be a specific grade or test score. If you completed the prerequisite at another institution, you must have the official transcript sent to Auburn. In the meantime, contact your advisor for registration advice. See course prerequisites (‘PR’ is the abbreviation for prerequisite)

‘Co-requisite Error’ means that you need to sign up for an additional corresponding class during the same semester. For example, you need to register for the corresponding science lab for your science course.

Special note: When registering for a science lecture and lab, you must register for the lecture before you can register for the lab.

STATUS:  COLLEGE RESTRICTION

  • ‘College restriction’ means that the course is restricted for students in a specific college. Your academic records indicate that you are not in the college approved to take the course.  This is common when registering for classes housed in the College of Liberal Arts.  You will need to register for another section of that class.

STATUS:  CLASS RESTRICTION

  • ‘Class restriction’ means that you are not in the appropriate classification level (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) to take the course.

STATUS:  FIELD OF STUDY RESTRICTION

  • ‘Field of Study restriction’ means that the course is restricted for students in specific majors or minors. Your academic records indicate that you are not in one of the approved majors or minors to take the course.

STATUS:  TIME CONFLICT

  • ‘Time Conflict’ means that you are signing up for 2 classes that overlap in the times they meet. The registration system won’t let you double-book yourself. You need to find a different section of that class or a class that meets at a different time.

STATUS:  RESERVE CLOSED

  • ‘Reserve Closed’ means that the class/section is reserved for a specific student group, such as Honors College or Learning Communities. You need to find a different section of that class. You may also see this as LA (Liberal Arts) or GL (Auburn Global).

AUTHORIZATION FAILURE:  INVALID ALTERNATE PIN

  • An ‘Invalid Alternate PIN’ means a registration PIN has been placed on your account.  If you attended your required advising session and your registration worksheet was approved, your PIN should have reset to 111111. Contact your academic advisor for help with this.
