Camp War Eagle Advising

College of Sciences and Mathematics

The College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) looks forward to advising you this summer and assisting you with registering for your fall schedule. The information below will guide you through what to expect. The most important thing you can do is to check your Auburn email account regularly and follow the instructions in your emails promptly. There will be several steps to advising that you must complete before June 25 in order to register for fall classes on time. We will require three different types of meetings to finalize your fall course plans and you may refine your ideas and plans at each step. The first two meetings will give you information that will help you use your time with your advisor more effectively.

Please don’t be anxious about this process. We have lots of experience and will guide you through.

The first email will come around May 5th. We look forward to working with you.

Freshman Academic Advising

The academic advising components below will prepare you to register for your fall schedule. All required components must be completed by June 25 to be cleared to register.

  • Canvas Module

    • Available online in Canvas beginning May 5

    • Takes approximately 45 minutes to complete

    • Please work through the modules to help you prepare for your appointments.

  • Cosam Group Session

    • These will be held at 6 different times in May and 2 additional times in June.

    • You will receive an email invitation around May 5th with a link to sign up for your preferred time.

    • You must attend ONE session to move on to the next step in the advising process.

  • Meeting with a Student Advisor Small Group Session

    • After you attend the large group session, you will be asked to complete a proposed fall course list. The large group session will give you LOTS of instructions, information, and tips about how to do that. Don’t worry.

    • You will receive an email with a personalized course selection menu to begin working on your fall course selection.

    • You will also receive an email to sign up for a small group session (10 students max) with a COSAM student to answer your questions. They know a lot and will be a lot of help! Please work through your course selection menu before meeting with the Student Advisor. The more you think about what you might choose, the more questions you may have and the more help they will be. You are NOT choosing your final courses yet, just thinking through options and making some preliminary choices.

    • You must attend ONE session in May or June to move on to the next step.

  • Meeting with your Academic Advisor

    • After you meet with the Student Advisor, you may have some revisions you’d like to make to your proposed course list. Once you make those changes, you will email your proposed course list to us (we will provide the email address later).

    • You will then receive an email with a link to sign up for a 20-minute individual appointment with your academic advisor. This is your chance to ask more questions and finalize the classes you plan to register for in late June/early July.

    • This meeting must take place before June 25th in order to register on time.

Have questions?

The COSAM module in Canvas will provide you with more information and details. Please be sure to go through the modules to learn more about COSAM, your curriculum, and the registration process. These modules will answer many of your questions. Please don’t worry yet about details like AP/IB/Dual Enrollment courses and how they get counted. We will walk you through all that during the advising process. For additional questions, call or email using the contact information below and we look forward to helping.
