General Information

  • All Auburn University students, faculty, and staff have the responsibility to help enforce the Academic Integrity Policy.

  • A charged student has the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty with the burden of proof being clear and convincing evidence presented by the charging party.

  • A charged student accused of academic misconduct, whether acknowledging involvement or not, shall be allowed to continue in the course without prejudice pending action by the Committee.

  • A charged student has the right to be informed of an allegation of academic dishonesty prior to a report being submitted.

  • A charged student has the right to request or agree to have a meeting with the charging party (Faculty-Led Meeting) to discuss and potentially resolve an alleged violation of the Academic Honesty Code.

  • A charged student has the right to request or agree to a Facilitated Meeting if no resolution has been made in the Faculty-Led Meeting.

  • A charged student has the right to an Academic Integrity Hearing for any charge of academic dishonesty.

  • For a Faculty-Led Meeting or Facilitated Meeting to occur, both the charging party and the charged student must consent to participate.

  • For a Faculty-Led Meeting or Facilitated Meeting to occur, a charged student cannot have a prior violation of the Academic Integrity Policy.

  • A charged student has a right to disagree with the alleged violation or recommended sanction in a Faculty-Led meeting and request a Facilitated Meeting or Academic Integrity Hearing.

  • A charged student must be notified that a Faculty-Led report has been submitted to the Office of the Provost.

    • Academic Integrity Course

    • Redo or Resubmit - Assignment or Examination

    • Reduced Grade - Assignment or Examination

    • Zero Grade - Assignment or Examination

    • Reduced Grade - Course

  • A charged student has a right to disagree with the alleged violation or recommended sanction in a Facilitated Meeting and request an Academic Integrity Hearing.

  • A charged student in a Facilitated Meeting is eligible for the following sanctions:

    • Academic Integrity Course

    • Redo or Resubmit - Assignment or Examination

    • Reduced Grade - Assignment or Examination

    • Zero Grade - Assignment or Examination

    • Reduced Grade - Course

    • Grade of F - Course

  • If a charged student desires a Hearing, their request must be emailed to the Office of the Provost within 72 hours after receipt of the Provost’s notification of the charge and the right to a Hearing. If no request is given during these 72 hours, the case will still be reviewed by the Academic Integrity Committee.

  • A charged student has the right to receive notice of the time and place of a Hearing at least five working days in advance of the Hearing.

  • During the Hearing, a charged student has the right to present witnesses and evidence and to be in attendance throughout the presentation of witnesses and evidence.

  • A charged student has the right to examine all evidence submitted by the charging party, including the names of witnesses, any time after being notified of the charge by the Office of the Provost.

  • A charged student is encouraged to provide a written statement 48 hours in advance and to cooperate with the Committee in processing their case. However, failure of a charged student to make a statement or to answer any or all questions will not be considered in the determination of guilt or innocence.

  • A charged student has the right to have an advisor accompany them at their Hearing. This advisor may not be an active participant during the Hearing. The advisor must be a current Auburn faculty member, staff member, employee, or student that is not involved in any active Academic Integrity case. The advisor cannot be a family member or lawyer of the charged student.

  • The advisor must be able to be present at the scheduled date and time for a Hearing. Delays will not normally be allowed due to scheduling conflicts of an advisor.

  • A charged student in an Academic Integrity Committee Hearing is eligible for the following sanctions:

    • Academic Integrity Course

    • Redo or Resubmit - Assignment or Examination

    • Reduced Grade - Assignment or Examination

    • Zero Grade - Assignment or Examination

    • Reduced Grade - Course

    • Grade of F - Course

    • Transcript Notation

    • Suspension

    • Expulsion
