AI Guidance for Students

Before using AI in any assignment, examination, project, etc., review the course syllabus and speak with the instructor to find out what is considered authorized use of generative AI.

Although there is widespread use of AI, it is important to always remember that any work turned in must be completely your own work. Using work produced with AI word for word is considered cheating.

Strictly using AI to complete your work robs you of the chance to learn the material and hone the skills that you will need in the future to complete work assignments in a manner that will allow you to earn the respect of coworkers and supervisors.

If certain uses of AI are authorized in your course, make sure that you properly attribute this use in the manner expected of you by the instructor. Your instructor will inform you of the way in which your use of AI should be cited. Make sure that you follow the guidance given by instructor either orally or in writing in the syllabus. Keep in mind that the way AI is to be cited may be different from class to class.
