Leadership Team

Dr. Liliana Stern is an Associate Professor of Economics. She is a native of Ukraine and moved to the U.S. at the age of 24 to pursue graduate education in economics at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN). After receiving her PhD in economics from Indiana University in 2006, Liliana joined the economics department at Auburn University as an assistant professor. She has been teaching at Auburn since then.
Dr. Stern’s main fields are macro and monetary economics and she usually teaches principle of macroeconomics and intermediate macroeconomics courses. She also taught the money and banking and the principles of micro courses in the past. Liliana also participates in the AU Business school study abroad program every summer and teach a variety of classes for Auburn students in Europe. Dr. Stern has also been a faculty advisor to AU Economics Club since she joined Auburn in 2006.
While not teaching economics and doing research, Liliana loves spending time and traveling with her family –her husband Michael (who is also an economics professor) and their three young boys. Dr. Stern loves cooking and baking (and even has her own cooking page on both FB and IG), flower arranging (she does both the traditional, or Western, floral arranging and Ikebana, or Eastern, floral arranging). Liliana is also a photographer and loves photographing children and family, as well as doing food and travel photography. Dr. Stern is a fitness enthusiast and a runner (even completed one half-marathon). She also does classical ballet.
