This Is Auburn Office of the Provost

Roger Thurow

For most of us, most of the time, hunger is an unpleasant abstraction.  It is unlikely that any of us has ever known enduring, grinding hunger. But, for many people in many parts of the world, hunger both concrete and permanent. They live with it day in and day out. Roger Thurow has come to know some of them and their hunger intimately. He has also sought to understand why so many of the world’s people, even amid the world’s wealth, continue to be hungry and what can be done to remedy their suffering. In addition, he has discovered how, with modest amounts of assistance, some of them have been able to escape the pangs of hunger.
