War Eagle
"War Eagle" is Auburn's battle cry. The most popular origin story dates back to 1892, when Auburn first played Georgia in football. In the stands was a Civil War veteran, who brought with him an eagle he had found in battle, years earlier. Suddenly, the eagle broke free and began circling the field. As it soared, Auburn marched toward the Georgia end zone for a victory. Taking the bird's presence as an omen of success, Auburn students and fans began to yell "War Eagle." At the game's end, the eagle crashed into the ground and died, but the battle cry "War Eagle" lived on.

Auburn fields 19 varsity teams with approximately 500 student-athletes supported by more than 225 full-time staff on the campus of Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. Since the University first fielded a football team in 1892, the legends associated with the Tigers have passed down through generations of fans. In 1859, the original Samford Hall was constructed as a main building for the East Alabama Male College. It was a four story structure, Italianate in design, and was erected at a cost of $111,000. It was affectionately known as "Old Main." Today Samford Hall serves as the university's administrative headquarters.

Toomer’s Corner is where you’ll find the celebration after a big win at Auburn. The intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue is where Auburn's campus and the City of Auburn meet. It’s also home to the famed Toomer’s Drugs, where the tradition of rolling the corner is said to have begun. The local drug store had the only telegraph in the city, so when employees received news of an Auburn victory at an away game, they would throw the ticker tape onto the power lines of the intersection. There is no clear consensus on when the tradition changed to throwing toilet paper into the trees.
