How does it work?

Our in-person P2P option is available through Southern Union State Community College. During the first two years of the program, Alabama resident students complete general education classes toward an associate’s degree at SUSCC while also taking at least one course at Auburn each semester.

Success Guides determine which classes students take at Auburn and which are taken at the partner institution, based on the student’s intended degree program. Upon completion of the designated coursework and program requirements, the student transfers to Auburn to complete their chosen bachelor’s degree. During concurrent enrollment, all courses are charged the community college tuition rate.

The Path to the Plains program provides academic support to students throughout their time at the partner institution and helps prepare them for a successful transition to Auburn.

Is Path to the Plains right for me?

If you are an Alabama resident, have demonstrated a high level of motivation and perseverance, and have an interest in attending a community college for your first two years of higher education, Path to the Plains may be perfect for you.

Path to the Plains (P2P) is only one of the ways to transfer to Auburn University. In fact, the traditional transfer route—applying after completing at least a year of college coursework after high school—can be a more straightforward path. The benefits of P2P are strongest with 3-4 semesters of participation.

Students who: have at least 36 hours (3 semesters or more) remaining to finish the associate degree when entering Path to the Plains, successfully complete the required courses, and maintain a combined unadjusted GPA of 2.75 or higher, are guaranteed acceptance to Auburn University.

A list of Auburn University majors that have fully developed curriculum plans is available here. For some majors not listed here, we can develop an individualized plan with you.

However, certain Auburn University majors do not align well with Path to the Plains. These majors are not available for Path to the Plains students. Starting in another major and changing your major into one of these unavailable majors would result in losing time and taking unnecessary coursework. We are happy to answer questions about this at path@auburn.edu.

Program participants pay tuition and fees based on the partner community college’s fee schedule for all courses they are enrolled in – whether at Auburn or the partner community college – during concurrent enrollment.

  • All tuition billing during the concurrent enrollment terms, for both the community college and Auburn coursework, is handled through the community college.

  • Other Auburn campus expenses are billed directly through the student’s AU Ebill (this may include textbook charges, optional services such as parking and/or a meal plan, and/or the optional Student Services Fee).

Certain Auburn campus services will only be available for Path to the Plains students through opt-in to AU’s Student Services Fee. The specifics are detailed via the link below.

Once a student transfers fully to Auburn, their tuition and fees will be based on Auburn’s tuition and fee structure.
