
Lieutenant Colonel Meredith I. Young
Commander, Detachment 005
Lieutenant Colonel Meredith I. Young is the Professor of Aerospace Studies and Commander of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 005 at Auburn University. In this capacity, Lieutenant Colonel Young serves as the head of the university's Aerospace Studies department, instructs senior courses on national security affairs and airpower history, supervises eight faculty and staff members, and has overall responsibility for training and mentoring more than 180 students preparing to become Air Force officers.
Lt Col Young graduated from Auburn University and received her commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2007. She graduated Undergraduate Combat Systems Operator Training in 2008 and has since been qualified as a CSO in the E-8C JSTARS and RC/OC/WC135 variants. A Senior CSO with more than 900 combat hours, Lt Col Young has supported multiple Combatant Commands to include CENTCOM, INDOPACOM, NORTHCOM, SOUTHCOM and EUCOM. Prior to her current assignment, she served as Commander, Combat Training School, USAFE-AFAFRICA Warfare Center, Einsiedlerhof Air Station, Germany.
Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 oak leaf clusters), Air Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), and the Air and Space Commendation Medal (one oak leaf cluster).
