"It made me feel like Auburn is not just in Alabama, it's all over. And you can feel that connection and be a true Auburn fan."
Ruthie Bolton graduated from Auburn with a degree in exercise physiology, but not before making a name for herself on the basketball court. In four seasons at Auburn, Bolton led the Tigers to a combined record of 119-13, three SEC Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances, including two in the Final Four. Also while at Auburn, Bolton was part of the Army ROTC, graduating as a commissioned officer. Bolton continued to play ball after graduation, amassing a 15-year professional career in Europe and with the Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA. She was a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a WNBA All-Star. Bolton's #6 jersey was retired at Auburn in 2001 and in Sacramento in 2005, a first for the Monarchs. In 2011, Bolton became the first Auburn player inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. After surviving years of domestic abuse in her first marriage, she has opened up about her experiences and become a powerful advocate for women around the world.
