What are Early Alert Grades?

In accordance with the Early Alert Grade policy faculty teaching core and participating courses submit an Early Alert Grade before midterm to give students a clear picture of their academic standing. If a student receives a D or F, they are encouraged to take action and explore available resources and options.

How Early Alert Grades Can Help You

Early Alert Grades are designed to help you reflect on your academic progress and make informed decisions for the rest of the term. They are visible in AU Access under the “My Academics” tab on the “Classes” card.

If you receive an Early Alert Grade, consider taking the following steps:

  • Talk with your instructor during office hours for feedback and guidance.

  • Meet with your Academic Advisor to discuss your degree progress and course options.

  • Schedule a session with an Academic Coach to build strong study habits and learning strategies.

Early Alert Grades are not part of your official academic transcript, though they are a valuable tool to help you succeed.

Submitting Early Alert Grades

Faculty play a key role in student success by submitting Early Alert Grades. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Timing can be tailored to meet your course needs as grades can typically be submitted up to two weeks before the deadline.

  • Grade Scope: Grades do not need to reflect 50% of the course content, but students should be informed of what portion they represent.

  • Reporting: Grade reports are shared with college administrators and relevant campus partners to support student outreach.
