In fact, we award a number of study-abroad scholarships to ensure more students have an international experience each year. Study-abroad opportunities have taken our students to destinations such as England, Greece, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and China.

College of Agriculture Study Abroad Fellowship Guidelines

Must be a student majoring in the College of Agriculture or Biosystems Engineering, having achieved at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative GPA of 2.75, be a U.S. citizen (or permanent US resident, i.e., green card holder), and must be committed to enrollment for at least one additional semester beyond their study abroad trip to apply for the Study Abroad Fellowship.

The College of Agriculture will award fellowships, based on available funding, to support College of Agriculture students participating in study abroad programs or other international experiences related to food, agriculture, and environmental sciences.

*Please note: Students can only receive the Study Abroad Fellowship once during their academic career at Auburn University.

The application opens about 2 months before the deadline. All COA students will receive an email with instructions.

Applications will be reviewed by representatives from the Office of Global Programs and Student Services.

In addition to the “Student Requirements” outlined above, eligibility for the Study Abroad Fellowship is limited to students majoring in the College of Agriculture or Biosystems Engineering who are participating in study abroad programs developed and led by Auburn University faculty. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a College of Agriculture faculty-led experience and to those with a higher cumulative GPA. To receive funding, students must earn academic credit for their study abroad trip (except for the Orr Trip), and a course approval form from the Auburn Study Abroad Office will be required prior to disbursement.

Study Abroad Fellowship funds will be deposited directly into the student’s Bursar account. Awards are issued once the student’s status is marked as “Committed” in the Auburn Study Abroad Office application portal. Funds are typically disbursed during the semester in which the study abroad program takes place. While AUSOM makes every effort to disburse funds prior to the student’s departure, administrative processing timelines may result in disbursement occurring during or, in some cases, after the program has concluded.

The College of Agriculture will award fellowships based on the availability of funds, with the intention of providing a minimum award of $500 to each eligible student participant.

Successful applicants are expected to share their experiences with other students during the semester following their trip. This can be accomplished through presenting a seminar, writing blog posts for the college’s study abroad blog, or speaking to student groups or classes.
