The Auburn University Graduate School recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership and scholarship through a variety of programs and awards. Students may elect to participate in leadership programs such as the graduate ambassador program or compete in academic programs such as the Three Minute Thesis competition. Other awards programs require faculty nomination.
Signifying the rich history of Hargis Hall, which is home to the Graduate School and was built in the same year as the name indicates, the 1887 Society Graduate Student Ambassadors invites new students to develop leadership and networking skills and enhance their education beyond the classroom.
The Graduate School recognizes academic excellence and achievement with a variety of student awards. An annual awards ceremony is held in April, in which recipients are presented certificates or plaques, and some honors come with a financial award. Three Minute Thesis, or 3MT®, is a research communication competition that challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their thesis or dissertation topic and its significance in just three minutes. 3MT develops academic, presentation and research communication skills and supports the development of research students’ capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
