If you are interested in teaching animal science, horticulture, agronomy and soils, aquaponics, or any other areas of agriscience, the Agriscience Education program is for you!

This degree includes applied practical experiences in both the classroom and the field to prepare you to lead your own secondary (grades 6–12) classroom and manage student organizations.

The M.S. non-certification program provides an interdisciplinary graduate-level education for community-based or international educators who do not wish to gain teacher certification/licensure in the United States. This master’s degree does not lead to professional educator certification.

If you have a master’s degree but aren’t sure you want to pursue a Ph.D., an Ed.S. may be right for you. In our Agriscience Education Ed.S. program, you’ll build on your master’s work and earn Class AA Alabama certification. You will broaden your knowledge base and complete a field project that addresses a practical problem in Agriscience Education.

The Ed.S. degree leads to recommendation for Class AA Alabama professional educator certification.

Our doctoral program prepares you for careers in teaching, administration, extension service, and training. We also prepare you for development positions in public and private education, business/industry, and government agencies. We build upon the knowledge of your previous experiences and studies. With this degree, you can assume leadership roles, manage programs, and teach in a variety of settings.

Ph.D. programs are not part of the Auburn University approved Educator Preparation Programs. The state of Alabama does not have certification/license at this level and therefore this degree is not eligible for reciprocity in other states

Research

Our faculty focus on solving grand challenges in Alabama, the nation, and throughout the world. Both graduate and undergraduate students develop, conduct, and report applied and basic research. Initiatives include: the adoption and diffusion of technological innovations in agriculture; agricultural literacy; agricultural communications; rural community development, sustainability of agricultural resources; international agriculture, and research methods.

Outreach

All agriscience education students are members of the Future Agricultural Science Teachers (FAST) organization.

Agricultural Ambassadors visit agricultural education classrooms and events throughout the state of Alabama, complete service learning projects, and represent Auburn at local, regional, and national meetings.

MANRRS is a professional development organization for students and professionals in agriculture, natural resources, and other related sciences. MANRRS empowers minorities in agriculture by providing support, networking, academic and professional advancement.
