Our Elementary Education program prepares teachers to provide appropriate learning experiences that meet the needs, capabilities, and interests of children in grades K-6. Coursework develops students’ knowledge and skills in research-based language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies content. You will take courses in educational psychology, curriculum and teaching, evaluation of teaching and learning, and foundations of education.

Our program will prepare you to teach children in grades K-6. You will learn the best methods to teach all subject areas effectively and how to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. We explore the use of technology, teaching in a culturally responsive way, selecting tasks and questions that promote learning, and how to reflect upon and improve your teaching practice daily.

With our rich field experiences and dedicated faculty, you’ll be ready to lead your classroom in positive and effective ways from day one.

Our innovative online master’s degrees in elementary education expand upon your undergraduate work. You’ll work directly with our outstanding faculty to broaden your approach to teaching elementary-aged students. Our M.S. non-certification program provides an interdisciplinary graduate-level education for community-based or international educators who do not wish to gain teacher certification/licensure in the United States.

The M.S. degree does not lead to professional educator certification.

If you are ready to continue your education, but not quite ready for the Ph.D., consider our Elementary Education Ed.S. degree! Learn more about teaching and delve into a practical problem in your culminating field project.  You’ll be mentored by excellent faculty who focus on expanding your knowledge and skills. You can complete Class AA certification as part of this degree.

Earning an Elementary Education Ph.D. at Auburn means you’re prepared to work in a variety of settings. In our social constructivist-based program, you’ll increase your knowledge and skills for K-6 and non-school settings. You’ll conduct independent research and complete a degree-culminating dissertation.  Our students work with and are mentored by excellent faculty.

Ph.D. programs are not part of the Auburn University approved Educator Preparation Programs. The state of Alabama does not have certification/license at this level and therefore this degree is not eligible for reciprocity in other states.

Exact programs of study are developed with your chair and faculty committee. Masters or other graduate work may count toward total degree hours, as approved by your committee.
