In the exercise science program, you will study the science behind physical and psychological impacts of exercise. Our active classroom experiences give you the foundation and knowledge to pursue careers in allied health.

Most undergraduate exercise science majors go on to attend professional schools in physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, or kinesiology in a master’s or doctoral program. We also offer a master’s in exercise science and a doctorate in kinesiology. Find out more by contacting us today.

Want to learn about performance optimization as well as sport psychology and the mental side of sports?  Our sport coaching minor includes coursework in movement analysis, care and prevention of injuries, strength development, and conditioning and speed.  You will have opportunities to learn about sports officiating, sports supplements, and adaptive and paralympic sports.

Program Requirements

The minor consists of 15 credit hours. Students should complete the minor prior to their last semester if possible.

Note that courses counting toward the minor cannot be applied toward major or core coursework for your program. (Some of the elective courses are required in some Kinesiology majors.)

Interested in the science of human movement? Our program can help you learn how the body responds and adapts to exercise and movement intervention. You’ ll have the science foundation to pursue graduate studies in medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or other allied health professions.

This program is offered on campus only.

Research Opportunity: You will have the opportunity to propose your own research. You’ll write a capstone senior paper that details your research plan. You might even receive some research funding for your proposal.

Our exercise science master’s degree focuses on biomechanics, exercise physiology, and motor behavior. Here you will advance your understanding of the effects of exercise and movement on the body and mind. An exercise science master’s degree will prepare you for professional school in medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or for a doctoral program in kinesiology.

Three tracks from which to choose for your master’s degree:

  • Biomechanics

    • Study the structure and function of the human body’s mechanics.

    • Learn the physics behind movement, involving analysis of the actions of forces.

  • Exercise Physiology

    •  Study the acute responses and chronic adaptations to a variety of exercise conditions.

  • Motor Behavior

    • Study the psychology of human movement.

    • Learn how people acquire and master physical tasks.

Research

Groundbreaking findings are just another day in our labs. We’re mapping out how humans move. We’re discovering how our minds respond to physical stress. We’re even testing and engineering better clothes for firefighters and athletes. Here in the exercise science program you will have the chance to propose and conduct your own research.

Outreach

We’re learning more every day about how our bodies work, and why. But it’s not just about what we know. We believe in helping teach others to improve their lives. For example, our Warrior Research Center works with soldier athletes at Ft. Moore, Georgia to produce stronger, faster US forces.
