
Dr. Susan Hubbard serves as the dean of the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University, a position she has held since July 2019. Hubbard’s entire career has been dedicated to the field of human sciences. A member of the college’s faculty since 1993, Hubbard previously served as associate dean for academic affairs, a position she held for 13 years. She holds the rank of full professor and previously served the college in numerous administrative and academic capacities, including coordinator of the college’s Hotel and Restaurant Management Program, extension coordinator and external affairs coordinator.
As dean, Hubbard provides strategic leadership to a growing college with more than 1,600 students and 220 faculty and staff members across three academic departments, one school and numerous centers and institutes. Supporting the college’s mission of developing science-based solutions to address society’s most pressing issues, Hubbard works to develop the college’s academic offerings, introduce new resources and programs, recruit faculty, support strong research productivity, increase donor engagement and enhance facilities.
Hubbard has considerable experience building academic partnerships and promoting instructional, research and outreach activities that have strengthened the college’s culture of engagement. In alignment with university/college goals, Hubbard helped forge industry partnerships, expand the college’s distance education programs and strengthen student services during her tenure.
Hubbard’s vitae reflects an impressive record of internal and external grants/contracts and has authored numerous refereed journal articles. She has presented over 70 refereed presentations at international, national, and regional conferences and meetings. In recent years, Hubbard has been recognized for her work as an administrator, educator and advocate. Among her accolades, she has received the National Outstanding Advising Administrator Award from the National Academic Advising Association, Pamela Sheffield Award recognizing commitment and service to Auburn, Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award, Auburn Student Government Association Outstanding Faculty Member, and Hospitality Educator of the Year Award from the Alabama Restaurant/Hospitality Association. Hubbard’s record of community service reflects current and past service on numerous nonprofit boards and organizations.
