Welcome to the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences (CADS) graduate programs at Auburn University. We offer a Master of Science (MS) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Consumer and Design Sciences. Our graduate programs emphasize advanced study and research in areas related to consumer behavior, design, and technology. We prepare graduates for careers in academia, industry, and government.

Graduate Degree Programs

Master of Science (MS) in Consumer and Design Sciences

The MS program offers two options: a thesis option and a non-thesis option. Both options require a minimum of 30 semester hours of coursework. The thesis option includes a research project and a written thesis, while the non-thesis option includes additional coursework and a research project.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Consumer and Design Sciences

The PhD program requires a minimum of 60 semester hours beyond the master's degree. The program includes coursework, a comprehensive examination, and a dissertation. Students work closely with faculty advisors to develop a plan of study that meets their individual interests and career goals.

Admission Requirements

Financial Support

Graduate assistantships and fellowships are available to qualified students. These awards provide financial support in the form of stipends and tuition waivers. Assistantships typically involve teaching or research responsibilities. Fellowships are awarded based on academic merit and provide financial support without work requirements.
