Join us for a variety of educational and recreational events at the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center! Wine tastings, cooking classes and other special events will be offered to the public throughout the year. Learn how to pair wines with your meal. Experiment with flavor. Rub elbows with professional chefs. The Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management is eager to provide incredible opportunities for the community to enjoy its resources. A Lot O’ Gelato

Taste delicious flavors of gelato from world renowned Master Gelato Maker, Stefano Dondoli, of Gelateria Dondoli in San Gimignano, Italy. Gelateria Dondoli is a two-time champion of the Ice Cream World Championship. Stop by and sample savory and sweet flavors of gelato made by the Master in the Rane Culinary Science Center. This is a ticketed event with an open, come-and-go format. Guests may meet and greet the Master, enjoy delightful gelato, and admire Auburn’s traditional University Gingerbread Village on display in the Rane Center. A fun event for the whole family!

Masterclass Chef Event: Authentic Italian Risotto with Chef Gianluca Tolla

Visiting Chef Gianluca “Luca” Tolla will be teaching a hands-on culinary class on how to make the perfect, authentic Italian Lobster Risotto and Risotto Milanese. Guests will eat the food prepared in the class.

Chef Tolla is here for a limited time as part of the Montgomery Pietrasanta Culinary Exchange Program. This talented chef has collaborated with Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe. While in the States, he will lead at Ravello Ristorante in Montgomery.

About the Speaker
Chef Gianluca Tolla is visiting from Pietrasanta, Italy for several months as part of the Montgomery Pietrasanta Culinary Exchange Program. During his time here, Chef Luca will offer special chef dinners with a curated menu, and will lead cooking classes and culinary workshops with live demonstrations.

Holiday Cookie Baking

Join us for a cookie baking class just for kids! Children ages 7-12 can bring a grown-up to learn how to bake three different holiday cookies, each made with varied techniques. Our guest chef will share her amazing recipes and skills in a fun, kid-friendly format. Every child will go home with one dozen of each type of cookie (36 cookies!), a set of star cookie cutters and a fun memory of cookie-making with their grown-up.
Each ticket covers the child and the grown-up they bring.
For kids ages 7-12.

Waiver: Please note that a waiver is required for each child and each accompanying grown-up. Youth waivers must be signed by the parent/guardian, not the accompanying grown-up. Email completed waivers to auhosp@auburn.edu.

Attire: Guests will be provided courtesy aprons to be used during the class. They should wear close-toed shoes and clothes that are comfortable to wear while being active in the kitchen. Please pull back long hair.

About the Speaker: Alison Smith is a masterful home baker as well as an Auburn alumna, current masters student, and staff member of the College of Human Sciences. Alison enjoys baking with her son at home and sharing the joy of baking!

Wine Tastings

The Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management invites the community to an evening of tasting exquisite wines from around the world with Master Sommelier Thomas Price. Guests will learn about the wines and tasting techniques in a fun, casual class environment. Come with your friends, your significant other or on your own and enjoy the benefits of having the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center in our community! Tickets are $40 per person and may be purchased online. Guests must be 21 or older and show proof of ID.

These classes are basic wine appreciation classes that feature a different country or theme each month. Guests will taste various wines accompanied by light snacks.

  • June – Deductive Tasting


About the Speaker: Master Sommelier Thomas Price has spent the last 35 years working in some of Seattle’s most prominent restaurants, including his own. Shortly after obtaining his Master Sommelier certificate in 2012, Price joined Jackson Family Fine Wines as National Director of Wine Education, in addition to working with Auburn University’s Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management as a visiting sommelier over the last eight years.
