Counseling Services Available
Campus counseling services are available
The unexpected death of a young person is a traumatic event, especially when it involves violence. There is no right or wrong emotional reaction. Some will have a very strong initial emotional reaction while others might feel numb. Honor your feelings whatever they are. The signs and symptoms can be immediate and short-lived or can last days, weeks or sometimes months after the traumatic event.
-- Cater Hall Conversations: Daily, 11:30 a.m.-12: 30 p.m., in the living room of Cater Hall. Refreshments are served. These informal discussions are led by counselors who facilitate discussions which focus on the loss of friends, exploring campus violence today, how to handle stress, reactions to traumatic events, safety tips, and just getting by in today's college environment. Call 844-4710 for more information or to schedule a discussion for your group or organization. Students may also walk in anytime to speak to a counselor.
-- Student Counseling Services: SCS is available for group consultation and can arrange schedules to serve your group's needs. Clinicians are available to see students on an emergency basis during typical work hours (7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.). If you are not certain whether your situation is an emergency or crisis, then call the center. Special appointments can be arranged by calling 844-5123. If an emergency arises after hours, call 911 or report to the East Alabama Emergency Room. SCS is located at 400 Lem Morrison Drive, Suite 2086. For more information, see www.auburn.edu/academic/provost/undergrad_studies/counseling.
-- Auburn University Psychological Services Center: Students will be seen either at Student Counseling Services or will be referred to the Auburn University Psychological Services Center. Graduate clinicians who are supervised by licensed psychologists, in a training clinic setting, provide individual therapy. The center is at 1122 Haley Center. More information is available at 844-4889, www.auburn.edu/aupsc, or aupsc@auburn.edu.
