Additional Safety Tips and Resource Phone Numbers for Students
Safety tips
- When leaving your residence always inform a roommate or friend where you are going and when you will return.
- Have your keys ready prior to entering your vehicle and lock your doors immediately.
- Do not park your vehicle in isolated or dark areas.
- Never leave a place with a stranger, or get into the vehicle of someone you just met.
- When walking, never let yourself become distracted by using a cell phone, ear phones, or any device which may interfere with your hearing or observation.
- Do not take shortcuts across construction areas.
- Do not take shortcuts through areas of heavy foliage.
- Be aware of your alcohol consumption and know your limits.
- Never leave your drink unattended.
- There is safety in numbers; use the buddy system.
- Do not bring strangers back to your room, and do not give out any personal information about yourself or anyone else.
- Follow your instincts! If it feels unsafe or uneasy – get to a safe place immediately!
Cyber Security:
- Never disclose personal information on MySpace or Facebook.
- Never give your full name and address.
- Never provide your social security # or passwords
- Never continue a conversation, relationship, communication with anyone when you feel threatened, uneasy or disturbed in anyway.
Shuttle Information:
Night Transit Security Shuttle Van Service offers a safe ride to on-campus locations to on-campus locations 6 p.m. – 3 a.m. seven days a week, while classes are in session. Security Escort Service:
If you need an escort when the night security van service is not in operation contact the Auburn Department of Public Safety at (334)501-3100. An officer will respond to your location and escort you to your campus destination. The security escort service is available:
- Between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., during University holidays, during semester breaks, and during weekends.
