What is a NICU and Infant Health Director?
Directors are NICU members that hold an executive position in the organization. Directors for Social Work or Human Development and Family Studies, or HDFS, Student Involvement should be students interested in obtaining a career in maternal and infant health through social work or child life, preferably neonatal healthcare.
NICU directors need a vast amount of experience or knowledge in perinatal health and a 3.5 GPA. It's also recommended that students holding these positions have previous leadership experience. Students applying for these positions should be majoring in HDFS of Social Work. If you're interested in applying, but you don't have an academic focus in this area, you can still submit an application. However, you'll need to set aside time to learn more about perinatal/neonatal and maternal health in relation to your major.
Directors are also responsible for choosing an assistant director they'd like to assist them with their position. Directors are responsible for communicating with their assistant directors and keeping them accountable.
What Will My Duties Include as a NICU Director?
Directors play an important role in the organization by leading students in a specific discipline. For example, directors for Social Work and HDFS Student Involvement would be responsible for leading NICU members majoring in HDFS or social work. They will work with the executive board to help find members' educational or professional development opportunities for specific majors and careers. They'll also need to help with fundraising, tabling (raising awareness around campus), handing out flyers, recruiting other clubs on campus and individuals to join NICU or get involved in philanthropic events.
