Earlier today, President Joe Biden signed a bill establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday. In recognition of this holiday, Auburn University will offer full-time and part-time employees a “freedom day.” This leave day can be used tomorrow (Friday, June 18) or any other time during the remainder of the 2021 calendar year.

Auburn University will be open tomorrow. Hundreds of parents and students have already traveled here for Camp War Eagle, and many students are scheduled to take classes. (There will be no classes on June 28 to commemorate Juneteenth.)

Auburn is choosing to offer a “freedom day” to ensure that operations can continue tomorrow, and that eligible employees will have the opportunity to recognize this special day.

Please note the following:
  • Employees must request and receive approval from their supervisor. If an employee wishes to take tomorrow off, they should submit their request to their supervisor as soon as possible.

  • Some employees may be required to work tomorrow due to classes and previously scheduled events such as Camp War Eagle.

  • Temporary employees are not eligible for the paid holiday.

Additional information will be forthcoming regarding Kronos.
