A message from Student Affairs
Article body
Auburn University has a responsibility to protect the identity and safety of all students impacted by a crime, especially victims and survivors. In the incident reported to the campus community today, a police report has not been filed at the request of the survivor, and there is no current investigation. No fraternity or student organization has been contacted about the incident.
Although no police report has been filed, due to the serious nature of the allegations, the officer who initially spoke to the survivor filed a suspicious incident report. In compliance with the Clery Act, all colleges and universities that receive federal funding are required to disclose information regarding crime on or near the university’s campus, even if the incident is disclosed by a third party.
Reporting a crime is a choice made by the survivor, and we fully support those decisions. Next week, Student Affairs will host a town hall to discuss preventing and reporting sexual assault. More details are forthcoming.
