Shackelford receives Delta Gamma Foundation teaching award

Kimberly Shackelford, an associate professor of social work, received the 2022 Delta Gamma Foundation Outstanding Faculty Award.

Nominated by the Delta Sigma chapter of Delta Gamma at Auburn University, Shackelford was recognized for her excellence in undergraduate teaching by challenging, supporting and encouraging Auburn students. Shackelford will be presented with a plaque by the chapter at a reception later this fall.

“It is clear Dr. Shackelford cares about the success of her students, not only in her classroom, but also in their future endeavors,” said Karla Mugler, chair of the award selection committee.

Delta Sigma chapter members emphasized Shackelford’s passion for social work and how she shares knowledge among others who have different perspectives.

Shackelford retired from the State of Mississippi after 30 years of service in various capacities to improve services to children and families. She continued to work with the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Mississippi to infuse a child advocacy curriculum in universities and colleges and all community colleges in Mississippi and to improve family/victim advocacy programs.

A member of Auburn’s faculty since 2018, Shackelford is the co-author of two books and several published journal articles. Her research areas include traumatic stress and best practices for supervision in the field of child welfare. She received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Iowa State University, Master of Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi and doctorate in leadership and higher education from the University of Mississippi.
