'When Football Came to the South' program set for Sept. 6

The Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts will host a free public program titled “When Football Came to the South: The Nature, Imagination, and Limits of a College Sport” on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Pebble Hill.
Speakers include Wayne Flynt, professor emeritus of history, Auburn University; Andy Doyle, associate professor of history, Winthrop University; and Mike Jernigan, editor emeritus, The Auburn Magazine.
The program commemorates the 75th anniversary of the death of George Petrie, historian, professor and coach of Auburn’s first football team in 1892. Copies of Mike Jernigan’s biography, Auburn Man: The Life and Times of George Petrie, will be available for purchase and signing.
