Supervisory Skills Leadership Training is a two-part certificate program that provides a solid understanding of the role of supervisors in an organization.

This program is offered in several flexible formats including online and onsite.

Level I: Introduction to Supervision

This six-part course introduces participants to organizational dynamics and management theories and provides an overview of supervisory and leadership styles. Participants learn foundational supervisory skills including motivating, leading and communicating with their employees. At the end of the program, participants will be able to accurately describe their role and responsibilities within the organization and identify several items they can personally take responsibility for improving.

The online course option is open to individuals. The self-paced course includes 14.5 hours (or 1.45 CEUs) of virtual instructional content consisting of video lectures, quizzes and activities.

Level II: Supervising Employees

This course builds upon the concepts learned in Level I, introduces more advanced theories of leadership and provides a deeper understanding of organizational operations. Participants gain specific communication tools for improving interactions with their employees and learn to identify problems and solutions to dealing with conflict. Upon completing the course, participants will be able to explain the process of strategic planning and describe effective ways to lead employees.

Dr. William I. Sauser, Jr.William I. Sauser, Jr., PhD, is professor emeritus of management in the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University, where he taught for 38 years. After his retirement from Auburn University in June of 2015 he continued consulting through his own firm, Irvin Davis Group. Dr. Sauser earned his BS in management and MS and PhD in industrial/organizational psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MA in business ethics from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. He is licensed to practice psychology in Alabama and holds two specialty diplomas from the American Board of Professional Psychology (Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Organizational and Business Consulting Psychology). Dr. Sauser’s interests include organizational development and change, strategic planning, human relations in the workplace, leadership and supervision, business ethics, and continuing professional education. He is a frequent consultant to public, private, and voluntary-sector organizations and has been awarded the 2003 Frederick W. Taylor Key by the Society for Advancement of Management, the 2012 Harbert College of Business Excellence in Outreach Award, and the 2013 External Consulting Award and 2014 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award by Auburn University. He received Auburn Author Awards in 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2016 for his co-edited books Experiences in Teaching Business Ethics, Managing Human Resources for the Millennial Generation, Legal and Regulatory Issues in Human Resources Management, and Transforming Government Organizations: Fresh Ideas and Examples from the Field, all published by Information Age Publishing. He is a past president of the Alabama Psychological Association, the Society for Advancement of Management (International), the Auburn University Senate and the Auburn University chapter of the American Association of University Professors. He is also a past member and chair of the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology. Dr. Sauser has for many years served as the Auburn University President’s designate on the Board of Directors of the Auburn-Opelika Tourism Bureau. He has been pastor of the Union Springs Presbyterian Church since 1997. His scholarly work comprises 57 refereed journal articles, 45 book chapters, and 20 published test reviews.

Dr. Joe CollazoDr. Collazo’s career started in the U.S. Army where he provided telecommunications support as a cryptologist for the Commander and Chief of U.S. Army/ Europe in Heidelberg, Germany. Collazo later served the telecommunications center of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon as a field service engineer for Sperry Univac in Washington D.C. As a Digital Equipment Corporation field service engineer, his work included supporting the IBM/Fairchild Hubble Space Telescope Development Team, the Electron Microscopy and Nuclear Oncology Labs at the National Institutes of Health, and the Radiobiological Research Institute at the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. As an executive and principal of DSI Computer Services, Collazo led the organization to the successful acquisition by American Express/ First Data Resources Division. He founded Collazo Technologies, Inc. (CTI), an organization specializing in proprietary email networks, where he served as President and CEO. With the acquisition of CTI by COLSA Corporation, an aerospace government contractor, Collazo moved to Huntsville, Alabama and served as Vice President of Legislative Affairs and Community Relations for two decades. After 25 years with COLSA Corporation, Collazo moved to further address his passion for teaching leadership, ethics, change, and corporate social responsibility, as a university professor.

Collazo graduated Summa Cum Laude from Champlain College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Digital Forensics; holds a Master of Business Administration degree, with honors (Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma) from Auburn University, Harbert College of Business. He is a graduate of the AACSB Professionally Qualified Faculty Bridge Program at The Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business. Collazo earned his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, with honors (Honors Dissertation: Leadership Style Impact on Innovation Climate) from Pepperdine University, Graduate School of Education and Psychology. As a lifelong learner, Collazo is continuing his formal education with Georgia Institute of Technology’s Professional Master of Applied System Engineering (PMASE) program.

Robin BarcaRobin Barca has nearly 40 years of progressive clinical and administrative health care experience in organizations throughout the nation. She joined Baptist Health, a three-hospital system in Montgomery, AL, in 2002. Until January of this year, she served as Senior VP/Chief Operating Officer of the health system.

Ms. Barca’s vision and passion for quality and patient safety enabled Baptist Health to create and implement innovative approaches to care transformation and improvement through strategic partnerships. She led the effort to create the Institute for Patient Safety and Medical Simulation initially as a partnership between Baptist Health and Auburn University’s aviation program. The Institute’s mission is to improve the quality of healthcare through the reduction or mitigation of the likelihood of medical errors.

She is a past president of Leadership Montgomery, served on the board of the Blue Ridge Conference on Leadership (past chair), and chaired the Population Health Committee for VHA Southeast. She also served as the community chair for the Jeff Davis High School Health Science Career Academy Advisory Council, chair for the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Council and served on the Montgomery County Elder Justice Task Force.

Ms. Barca received her nursing degree from the University of NV at Las Vegas; a BA (business) from university of Hawaii - West Oahu College in Honolulu, HI; and a MS in Human Resource Development and Administration from Barry University in Miami Shores, HI. She also received a graduate certificate in Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

She has been married to Bob for nearly 45 years (a retired Air Force Officer) and they have three grown married sons (two graduated from UT!), three wonderful daughters-in-love (one a UT grad and one a Carson Newman grad), and the four most wonderful grandchildren any grandparents could hope for. Her greatest delights are spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and now pursuing new avenues for creative expression and serving others in retirement.
