Circle K International at Auburn University (CKIAU) is organizing a supply drive for the senior-living residential community, Timothy Manor.

CKIAU is part of the Kiwanis International service organization, and it is committed to contributing to the community by leading several service projects each semester.

Some of their initiatives include volunteering at food banks, nursing homes, and the humane society. They “live to serve, love to serve.”

“There have been tons of people who have helped me out throughout my life, and I think that giving back is really important,” shared Josiah Yarborough.

As president of CKIAU, Yarborough is leading his team’s collaboration with Timothy Manor. Many of the residents struggle to afford basic necessities on a fixed income, so CKIAU is helping fulfill that need.

This was made possible with the help of community partners assisting as drop off locations: the Office of Public Service, Auburn Public Library, Wesley Foundation, OLLI at Auburn, and Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

Service Coordinator for Timothy Manor, Kemberly Daniel, manages these “diverse” and “exciting group of people” ranging from 62 to 90 years old. She is committed to “support them in any way and in any capacity,” Daniel stated.

Working in this role, she has learned that many senior citizens across Alabama find it challenging to afford items like toiletries.

“If they’re spending an exorbitant amount on medications and doctor’s appointments and paying for gas, for rides and things of that nature, it doesn’t leave a lot of room for the basics like a toothbrush,” Daniel explained.

When confronted with potentially life-threatening expenses, many senior citizens are forced to neglect spending money on other items. “No senior should be forced to make a decision to forgo medications or to forgo anything that’s an absolute necessity to pay for another,” Daniel exclaimed.

CKIAU understands this struggle. Providing these toiletry supplies would allow residents to worry less about buying items like soap and provide ease knowing that “someone is caring about them.”
