COACH Opioid Training Event

The Center for Opioid Research, Education and Outreach, or COACH, at the Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy is holding a Substance Misuse Summit in Montgomery on February 9, 2024. The event, co-hosted with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), is being held at Frazer Church in Montgomery from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with eight hours of continuing education credit being offered to attendees. Topics will include the latest information on substance abuse disorders/MAT, drug court programs, recovery experts, substances of abuse, state resources and the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).

The Harrison College of Pharmacy and Auburn University’s leadership established COACH after identifying the need and recognizing an opportunity to serve local communities and the state of Alabama. As part of its educational mission, COACH offers high-level education to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge to prevent, recognize and assist treatment and referral for opiate use disorders within their practice and community. These educational programs bring together a diverse healthcare audience in order to encourage communication and collaboration across disciplines.

“We strive to host professionals from multiple disciplines, so the Summit provides an opportunity to hear leaders in their respective fields provide the latest information on substance use disorders,” said Karen Marlowe, PharmD, BCPS, CPE, COACH Director. “Now more than ever, healthcare and mental health professionals, community leaders, law enforcement, and citizens must work together to treat those with substance use disorders and save lives,” said Nancy Bishop, RPh, ADPH State Pharmacy Director. “Events like the 2024 Substance Misuse Summit bring together people who can and want to make a difference in their communities and in the state,” added Bishop.
