Auburn University Women in Technology celebrates its first anniversary as the inaugural Employee Resource Group, championing diversity and inclusion within the tech sector. With a membership exceeding 100 individuals, AU Women in Technology (AU WIT) embarked on a mission to cultivate a vibrant technical community, dismantling barriers, nurturing belonging, and empowering women through mentorship and leadership initiatives. Spanning across campus departments, AU WIT unites women and allies who advocate for gender diversity, fostering a culture of support and innovation. At the core of AU WIT is a commitment to provide networking opportunities and support systems for women in technology, create a welcoming environment where women from diverse backgrounds can connect, collaborate, and inspire one another, and ultimately shape a more inclusive and equitable future for the technology industry.
A primary objective is to facilitate continuous learning and professional development among members. Through initiatives such as Lunch and Learn Mini Series, AU WIT offers opportunities for personal growth. Past events, such as "Self-Discovery through the Enneagram," provide a platform for members to explore personality theory, fostering greater understanding and empathy within our community. Also, hosting past workshops like "Explore Generative AI" equips members with practical skills and insights into emerging technologies, enabling them to adapt and excel in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
By participating in campus-wide events like professional panels for current students, AU WIT strives to contribute to the collective growth and advancement of the technology industry. Furthermore, hosting book club discussions on inspirational memoirs such as "Sum It Up" by Pat Summitt resulted in members receiving invitations to participate in a practice session for the Auburn Women's Basketball team, where they actively engaged with themes of leadership and resilience found within the literature. Similarly, the exploration of "A Light Beyond the Trenches" by Alan Hlad led to guided tours of Auburn's Veterinary Medicine canine performance facilities, providing members with a deeper understanding of the themes of innovation and perseverance explored in the book.
Auburn University Women in Technology's dedication to fostering personal growth, community engagement, and professional development is unmistakable through its diverse initiatives and impactful events. We invite you to join us in our mission to shape a more inclusive and innovative future for the tech industry.
