The Office of Inclusion and Diversity Recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month

Thursday, Sept. 15, marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month—which will continue through Oct. 15—and the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, or OID, is honoring the special month with an array of events.

This heritage month is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate Hispanic Americans’ diverse culture and contributions that have helped shape the social, economic, and cultural landscape within the U.S. Sept. 15 has special significance across Latin America, as it marks the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Similarly, Mexico celebrates its independence on Sept. 16 and Chile on Sept. 18.

Throughout the month, the Auburn Family and community members are invited to celebrate and enjoy Hispanic culture or take time to learn more about the vast contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans.

Auburn’s Office of Inclusion and Diversity recognizes the historical impact of Hispanic individuals, advocates and allies and is committed to fostering a community where all can thrive, with campus resources like the Latinx Student Association, or LSA, within the Cross-Cultural Center for Excellence, or CCCE.

On Sept. 20, OID, LSA and Campus Dining will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Edge Dining Hall with delicious cultural dishes, Hispanic Heritage Trivia and Salsa Lessons from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Salsa lessons begin at 6:00 p.m. outside the Legacy Plaza.
