This October, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, or OID, recognizes and celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month.

Each year, this month serves as a time to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history and the notable individuals who helped to shape it. OID recognizes the month as a time to acknowledge the importance of acceptance and allyship in supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

During the month, organizations will also observe National Coming Out Day on October 11, which shines a light on individuals in the LGBTQ+ community and their decision to share their identity publicly; and Spirit Day on October 20, a day when people around the country wear purple in support of LGBTQ+ youth.

The Auburn Family is invited to learn more by engaging with the Sexuality and Gender Alliance at Auburn, or SAGA, or by joining in for the celebration of National Coming Out Day and the one-year anniversary of the opening of the AU Pride Center on October 11. Also, people may join Pride on the Plains and OID for Rocky Horror Festival on October 31.

For more information on our commitment to fostering a welcoming environment where all can thrive, the calendar, and other notes of recognition, please visit OID through its website, on Instagram, or the DEI landing page.
