The Biggio Center proudly announces the opening of applications for its signature Course (Re)Design (CRD) programs for Summer 2024. Established in 2015, the CRD has engaged over 700 faculty in a research-driven approach to designing college courses that foster significant student learning. This year, participants will collaborate in themed cohorts, steered by experienced CRD alum facilitators, to explore evidence-based, student-centered teaching methods, including inclusive pedagogies, teaching in the age of generative AI, and designing courses for active learning in EASL classrooms.

What’s New in CRD 2024?

This year cohorts will be organized around themes that represent common interests or shared pedagogical challenges. Applicants will be prompted to rank themes according to their teaching preferences and needs. Potential topics range from "Teaching with AI" and "Adobe Creative Cloud" to “Leading Large Lectures” and “Elevating Online Courses” to "Gamifying Courses" and "Teaching with LAs, SIs, TAs, & Other Helpers." We also encourage departmental teams, grant project groups, or those involved in team-taught courses to apply as a cohort.

Introducing AUSSI: the COSAM CRD

Biggio Center and faculty from COSAM, including the Discipline Based Educational Researchers (DBERs) cohort, are proud to launch the Auburn University Summer STEM Institute (AUSSI). Building on the foundations of CRD and the Mobile Science Institutes (MOSI), AUSSI invites faculty, postdocs, lab coordinators, and GTAs from the College of Science and Mathematics to redesign courses for EASL classrooms in the ACLC building through a week long program that tailors the award winning curriculum from the National Institute for STEM Teaming (NIST) to the Auburn COSAM context.

CRD Eligibility and Participation

Eligible participants include Auburn University faculty of all ranks, adjuncts, part-time instructors, postdocs, instructional staff, and administrators involved in course design or teaching. We welcome faculty new to the CRD as well as those who have participated in the past. GTAs leading courses as the Instructor of Record are also welcome. AUSSI is reserved for faculty, staff, postdocs, and students in COSAM.

Special Notice to Leadership

We encourage Deans, Heads, and Chairs to share this invitation with your NEWLY HIRED FACULTY (especially instructors, lecturers, adjuncts, postdocs and part-time appointees). Encouraging your incoming faculty and postdocs to participate in summer CRD before starting their new role at Auburn is one of the best ways to support these colleagues. CRD provides an orientation to Auburn’s instructional technologies, policies, and teaching culture while also helping them to build relationships with future colleagues before setting foot on campus.
