COSAM Student Services

Transfer Students

We are so glad you are here!!!

Welcome to the College of Sciences and Mathematics.  Our goal is to make your transition to Auburn University an easy and successful experience.

The advising office is located on the second floor of the Sciences Center Classroom Building in room 239.  Our office hours are 7:45-11:45 and 12:45-4:45. It is best to schedule an appointment with your advisor through Advise Assist to make sure she is available. We always have peer advisors in the office who can answer questions as well.

It is important for new college transfer students to look for extracurricular activities and clubs to get involved with. You can find a list of all available clubs on AU Involve. Some of the COSAM and pre-health major clubs include Alpha Epsilon Delta, Pre-Physician Assistant Cub, Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Club, Pre-Pharmacy club, Pre-Vet Club, Tri-Beta, etc.

Be sure to attend office hours with your instructors.  Don’t be shy!  Let them know that you are a transfer student and that you wanted to introduce yourself.  This is a great opportunity to begin building a relationship with an instructor who could potentially write a letter of recommendation for you in the future.

Take advantage of tutoring and other resources on campus.  Many of our best students have tutors.  They find that if they can make Bs on their own, using a tutor often helps them to get As.  You can find a comprehensive list of tutoring resources in this Canvas course under “tutoring”.

Be sure to read your Auburn University email every day.  This is the official form of communication at the AU and is how you will receive important and time-sensitive information.

Remember that our transfer students are very important to us, and we are here to help you.  Do not hesitate to reach out to your advisor with any questions you may have.

Transfer Hours Policies

  • If you are transferring from a two-year school, the maximum number of hours allowed is ½ the total required for your degree or 64, whichever is fewer.  For most degrees in COSAM, 61 hours is half the degree and, therefore, the maximum number of hours that transfer.  If you have more than 61 hours from a 2-year school or have questions about how your credit has been applied toward your degree, contact your advisor.
  • If you are transferring from a four-year school, up to 90 hours can be applied toward your degree.
  • In order to graduate, 25% of your total degree requirements must be completed at Auburn.
  • In order to graduate, 50% of your major coursework (bolded classes on the curriculum models and checklists) must be completed at Auburn.
