This is any violation of the Academic Integrity Policy resolved in a Faculty-Led Report meeting, a Facilitated Meeting, or an Academic Integrity Committee Hearing. Violations include, but are not limited to plagiarism

A notation of Academic Dishonesty is only added to a student’s academic transcript if that particular sanction was imposed upon the student.

Faculty are strongly encouraged to report violations of the Academic Integrity Policy. This ensures fair treatment to the student. Reporting violations also creates a record that a student has violated the Academic Integrity Policy so that this information can be used in determining sanctions imposed in future cases.

Yes, faculty must notify a student of an allegation of academic dishonesty prior to a report being submitted.

Once a report of a violation has been received by the Office of the Provost, the Registrar’s Office will enter a “PE” in place of the student’s grade until the Academic Integrity process is completed.

Every case is different and, as such, there are no “typical” sanctions. Sanctions can range from a course on academic integrity to expulsion. However, expulsion is very rare and is reserved for repeat offenders. Refer to the Academic Integrity Policy to see the full list of sanctions.

Within five (5) business days of notification of the outcome of your academic integrity case you will complete the online appeal form. The President of Auburn University is responsible for reviewing appeals, and the decision will constitute the final action of the Academic Integrity Procedure. Appeals may only be considered if:

  • New evidence or information is discovered that could potentially impact the decision. This new information must have been unknown to the person appealing at the time of the original Hearing.

  • Proper procedure for a Hearing was not followed.

  • The proposed sanctions are considered disproportionate in comparison with the violations committed.

No. Once an alleged violation of academic integrity has been reported, you may not drop the course. If you drop the course, you will be re-enrolled by the Registrar’s Office.

Yes. Students have the right to have an advisor accompany them at their Hearing. This advisor may not be an active participant during the Hearing. The advisor must be a current Auburn faculty member, staff member, employee, or student that is not involved in any active Academic Integrity case. The advisor cannot be a family member or lawyer of the charged student.

No, students do not receive a copy of the written evidence. However, students have the right to review all written evidence related to the case. Evidence must be reviewed in person in Samford Hall.

It is strongly recommended that students submit a written response to the alleged violations at least two business days prior to their hearing or Facilitated Meeting. Written responses should be emailed to provst2@auburn.edu.

After the expiration of a sanction, the Office of the Registrar will remove the sanction notation from the transcript.

Students must complete the course within 30 days of the date it is assigned. Failure to complete the course within 30 days of notification will result in a registration hold on your account.

The deadline for this is at the discretion of the professor, with the course time frame.
