Center for Multiscale Modeling of Materials and Molecules
Promoting on-campus education, research, outreach, and collaborations in scientific computing
CM4 Mission
- Research Mission. The mission to promote the development of integrated research platforms in a closed-loop paradigm inspired by the Materials Genome Initiative, a federal multi-agency initiative. This effort will entail method development and theory/computational driven design and modeling of materials and molecular systems and support the experimental counterparts in synthesis and characterization. To this end, this center will (i) facilitate the collaborations between center members and external experimental teams; (ii) advance the deployment of centralized research instrumentation through joint collaborative grants; (iii) enhance the submission and success of collaborative grants fostering interdisciplinary works across various fields in STEM; and (iv) advance research aligned with the Alabama’s EPSCoR mission (e.g. additive manufacturing).
- Educational Mission. This mission will aim to: (i) promote the interaction between the different units through the creation of interdisciplinary courses and seminars; (ii) train the next generation of scientists and engineers to work in collaborative environments; and (iii) elevate the student experience both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Outreach Mission. This mission will seek to (i) improve the visibility of the AU research of molecular systems and materials within K12 and broad community of the state of Alabama; (ii) increase recruitment and retention of groups underrepresented in the computational materials and chemistry research community; and (iii) create a connection with industrial partners.
