Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! All of our student positions are paid employment. Hourly rate is dependent on specific job. See the job descriptions on the Join the Team page for hourly rate details.

Upon completing an application, you will get a confirmation email to let you know that your application has been received. It is imperative that you input your Auburn email correctlty in the application for this reason. After that, you will only hear something if you are selected for an interview. We accept applications on a rolling basis. However, priority consideration is given to applications received before midterm in the semester before employment. For example, you might submit your application in August to be considered for a spring job opportunity. Invitations to interview would go out closer to intitial interviews in October.

If you submitted an application but did not receive an email confirming receipt, two things could be the issue:

  • There was an error in your email address submission: The Academic Support undergraduate application is an identity-hidden process. Therefore, your email address is your application identified. A typo in that field would result in you not receiving confirmation.

  • The application was not fully complete: Only completed applications are recorded and therefore trigger a response. If you opted not to answer all prompts, your application was likely not recorded.

Therefore, it is recommended that you resubmit your application to ensure that we can contact you without issue and that the application is complete.

Upon completing an application, you will get a confirmation email to let you know that your application has been received. It is imperative that you input your Auburn email correctly in the application for this reason. After that, you will only hear something if you are selected for an interview. We do not "close out" applications because you may have a strong application, but it does not align with our current needs. Therefore, we keep the application open in case a position aligned with your application becomes available after initial interviews have been completed.

Federal law caps on-campus student employment positions at 20 hours per work total (0.5 FTE). Front desk representatives in our office work between 8-15 hours per week (.375 FTE). SI Leaders work 9 hours per week (.25 FTE), and Peer Tutors offer sessions 5-9 hours per week. It is possible to work more than one job to get to the full 20 hours (0.5 FTE). In fact, some folks work as both Peer Tutors and SI Leaders for our office!

To make your application as competitve as possible, it is recommended that you include all courses you are qualified and potentially interested in supporting. This increases the chance that there will be a match between program need and your application.

Peer Tutors do support more than one course. More courses does not necessarily mean more work, but it does mean that while working your tutoring hours, students will be able to book a session with you for any of the courses on your listing.

SI Leaders are assigned to only one course and faculty member each semester.

Yes! Though SI does not currently support Honors courses and Study Partners only supports a few each semester, applications who have taken the Honors version of a course are eligible to serve as a Peer Tutor and/or SI Leader for the general version of the class on a class by class basis. For the same reason provided above, it is worthwhile to include the Honors version of courses in your application.

For the Peer Tutor role, preference is given to candidates who have taken the course(s) they are applying for at Auburn University. This provides the application with a knowledge base of both the course content and the student experience of taking the class at this specific institution. For tutoring, there are two exceptions: If the application has bypassed (through AP classes, ACT/SAT scores, etc.) the lower levels of Mathematics or World Languages courses that we offer tutoring for but has documented successful experience at Auburn University in higher levels of those subject areas, they may apply to tutor the lower-level courses.

For SI, there are no exceptions - the coures you are applying for must have been taken at Auburn University.
