Course Description:  This second course in our methodology for teaching Spanish, French and German is twofold. 1) We will focus on creating lessons to develop and improve grammatical and textual competence with some emphasis on pragmatic competence in order for second language (L2) learners to create accurate and appropriate messages at the novice and intermediate levels of proficiency. 2) We will use authentic texts (those written by native speakers for native speakers) to create a linguistically and culturally rich environment. In this environment, pre-service teachers will develop strategies for creating literacy skills for novice and intermediate (L2) learners. These in-class activities will prepare our pre-service teachers to plan, deliver, and evaluate instruction during the field experiences required for this course and during their internship. All the lessons in students’ School-Based Clinical Experiences and in their in-class demonstration lessons will include a focus on culture and using technology to find authentic documents.
