SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT I
Ethnographic Project
Due: August 8

      This collecting data and making some assumptions or hypotheses will be completed in four stages: (1) Library Search for peer-reviewed articles, (2) Be prepared for your Zoom Group meetings, (3) Complete your observations and interviews in U.S. before leaving for Spain or France, (4) Complete you observations and interviews in target culture -- Spain or France -- before returning to U.S.

2. Zoom group meeting: Be prepared to..

a) Share outline of articles found for Literature Review. b) Have sample questions for your interviews, and share who will be your interviewees. c) Have a few interviews ready to share. d) Share initial impressions of observational settings/interviewees based on the framework identified in class. This opportunity is to receive input from your peers about appropriateness of your articles, interview question, and observational settings.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Dates: June 6 – 10

3. Complete observations and interviews in U.S.before leaving for Spain or France.  Send me a brief summary of information you have found in your literature review, and include a brief summary of any themes you see developing. Relate those themes to perspectives:( perceptions, beliefs, values, attitudes) and the practices that lead you to these conclusions.  You may connect these to Zanger's Value Continuums  or Kluckhohns Orientations.or Hofstede (Collectivism vs Individualism)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Due date:  Any time before departure

Complete observations and interviews in Spain or France.  Send me a brief summary of information you have found and how it relates to the themes you previously saw developing in your U.S. observations and interviews.

Optional: You may request a Zoom meeting to discuss your project.  Have specific questions ready and any problems you are encountering in terms of your research. We can also discuss any themes you may be seeing.

Write up your report:

      ______     a cover sheet with the title of your paper, your name and this course number.
      ______     the body of your paper with references indicated according to the style you have chosen.  (See rubric below)
      ______     appendices must include:
                           1) demographic information concerning interviewees,
                           2) photos of people and/or places where observations took place,
                           3) interview questions in L1 and L2,
                           4) digital recordings of interviews are sent in a separate file..  (no need to translate your interviews in L2)
