At Auburn, employee recognition is a meaningful way to honor the people who advance the university’s mission every day.
Through programs such as the Spirit of Excellence awards, the Employee Recognition Program, and the McLean employee engagement survey, UHR is strengthening the connection between employees and the university. These efforts ensure that outstanding work and honest feedback will shape the future of our campus.
Spirit of Excellence

- Erin Duffie, Biosystems Engineering, College of Agriculture – Administrative/Professional
- Ariel Rocker, Learning Resource Center, College of Education – Office Administration
- Dora Moore, Custodial Services, Facilities Management – Service/Maintenance
- Chelsy Hooper, Instructional Technology, Library – Technical/Paraprofessional
The Spirit of Excellence program celebrates employees who go above and beyond in their daily roles. These awards highlight individuals who demonstrate exceptional service, embody Auburn’s core values, and make a positive difference in the lives of colleagues, students, and visitors.
Whether an employee provides extraordinary customer service, solves a complex problem, or brings positivity to their team, Spirit of Excellence awards shine a light on contributions that might otherwise go unnoticed. The program reinforces that excellence is not limited to major milestones. It is found in the consistent, thoughtful actions that strengthen Auburn’s culture every day.
Employee Recognition Program
Held each year during Employee Appreciation Week, UHR’s Employee Recognition Program honors the dedication and longevity of Auburn’s workforce. The program celebrates service milestones, achievements, and contributions that reflect years of commitment to the university’s mission.
Employees are recognized for reaching key service anniversaries, and departments are encouraged to celebrate accomplishments in ways that feel meaningful to their teams. These recognitions help build a sense of belonging and pride, reminding employees that their work has a lasting impact.
Campus Engagement Survey
The Employee Engagement Survey conducted by McLean provided employees an opportunity to share their experiences, insights, and ideas for improvement. The survey measured key aspects of engagement, including communication, leadership, workplace culture, and opportunities for growth.
More than 2,500 employees participated, representing 42% of full‑time faculty, staff, and A&P employees. Auburn scored 17 points higher than the educational services benchmark. Results showed:
- Strengths in employee empowerment, organizational potential, and culture
- Opportunities for improvement in career advancement, collaboration, and recognition
The findings offered a clear picture of what employees value and where the university can continue to grow. Auburn’s senior leadership team are continuing to explore ways to address these areas.
This was also the first year all three governance groups (Faculty, Staff, and A&P) were included in one combined survey.
