Travel Grants

Auburn University:

GAB Student Travel Grant. This award is funded by the AU Geosciences Advisory Board and intended to support travel to academic/professional meetings. Having the opportunity to engage with researchers with your discipline at a regional, national, or international meeting is an important part of a student’s professional growth. Open to undergraduate and graduate students in Geology and Geography.

 

  • 2025-26 Deadlines
    • Fall: Friday, September 19, 2025 (Travel Dates: August 15 to December 31)
    • Spring: Friday, January 30, 2026 (Travel Dates: January 01 to August 14)
  • Required Materials
    • A completed Requisition for Authority to Travel (RAT Form) signed by your major professor/advisor.
    • A short summary (up to 1-page) about why you are attending and/or an abstract.
    • Information about the meeting location and dates.
    • A 2-page CV/Resume

COSAM Graduate Student Travel Fund.  COSAM provides modest support for COSAM graduate students to present their dissertation or thesis research at scientific meetings. Funds are rarely provided for workshops and are never provided for research effort or travel to research sites.

 

AU Graduate School -- Graduate Travel Grant. Travel to academic meetings.

 

 

Other Organizations:

Alabama Geological Society -- Student Travel Grant. Travel to professional conferences. Open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Research Grants

Auburn University:

GAB Student Research Grant. This award is funded by the AU Geosciences Advisory Board to offset the direct costs of research. Examples include equipment, lab supplies, publication costs, or travel costs to and from a field site or to meet with collaborators. Note: this does not fund travel to academic/professional meetings. These funds must be spent on research activities within the budget year it was granted. Open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies.  Annual student grants in aid for graduate students

 

American Association of Petroleum Geologists. 

  • Grants-in-Aid Program. Promotes research in the geosciences. Grants are made to provide financial assistance to graduate students (currently enrolled in Masters or Ph.D. programs) whose thesis research has application to the search for and development of petroleum and energy-mineral resources and/or to related environmental geology issues.
  • L. Austin Weeks Undergraduate Grants. Annually awards more than $85,000 in funds, providing undergraduate-level geoscience students and student-led geoscience organizations (student chapters, associations and clubs) with $500 grants to support their efforts.
