Registration and Planning
What is mandatory advising/unblocking?
Mandatory advising, or unblocking as you may hear it called, is what COSAM students MUST do each semester before they can register for courses. Every semester a “block” is put on your account, which prohibits you from registering until you visit your specified advisor. Once you meet with your advisor, your PIN number is set allowing you to register for courses.
When should I come for mandatory advising/unblocking?
Once your time ticket is posted on AU Access, it is important for you to come and see your specified advisor during their available times. You will receive an email asking you to make an appointment through an attached link. Most registration advising takes place in October or April.
Registration Advising
An appointment is required for registration advising. You will receive an email invitation with a link to schedule an appointment. You MUST have your Registration Worksheet filled out before the beginning of your appointment. If you form is not complete, you will be asked to schedule another appointment. Peer advisors are available to help you with the forms.
1. Check your time ticket on AU Access by logging in and clicking on “Check Registration Status”. The day and time you may begin registering will be posted there. Make sure you have scheduled an appointment PRIOR to your time ticket. You CAN be unblocked even if you have a hold. You just can’t register until that hold is removed.
2. Use our Registration and Planning site to plan your schedule.
3. Pick up or download a Registration Worksheet from 239 SCC and have it filled out COMPLETELY and IN ADVANCE of your time ticket. NO exceptions! The peer advisors can assist you if you have questions. Download a mock version of a sample completed registration worksheet.
