Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

SNAP, commonly referred to as food stamps, provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of families in need so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency. To get SNAP benefits, you must apply in the state in which you currently live and meet certain requirements, including resource and income limits. Most SNAP eligibility rules apply to all households, but there are some special rules for college students. Unfortunately, international students are not eligible for SNAP benefits, as this is a federal program.

Auburn Cares partners with the local SNAP office to allow students the opportunity to meet one-on-one to discuss their financial situation and whether they qualify for SNAP. The SNAP representative is available the first Tuesday of the month from 9:00 am-10:00 am to meet with students. Meetings are held in the Campus Food Pantry (Lupton Hall) and last 10 minutes. Students must sign up for the meeting at aub.ie/snapmeeting .
